What It Is and Why It Happens

Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve where it passes through the wrist. It causes numbness, tingling and pain in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often waking you at night, and in later stages weakness of grip and pinch. Repetitive wrist work, vibrating tools, pregnancy, diabetes and thyroid conditions all raise the risk, and it is very common in the north-east’s warehouse, trades and healthcare workforce.

Early and moderate carpal tunnel usually responds to conservative treatment; the goal is to reduce pressure on the nerve and restore its glide before permanent changes set in.

Hand and Wrist Nerve Problems We Treat

Our physiotherapists at Cityscape Square NE assess and treat:

How We Treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Assessment confirms median nerve involvement and screens the neck, shoulder and elbow, since nerve compression is often at more than one level. Treatment includes nerve and tendon gliding exercises, manual therapy to the wrist and forearm, a night splint to keep the wrist neutral, dry needling for tight forearm muscles, and changes to workstation, tools and technique. We refer for nerve conduction testing and surgical opinion when symptoms are severe or not responding.

Work-related carpal tunnel is covered through WCB. See also wrist pain physiotherapy and hand pain.

Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain.
