What It Is and Why It Happens
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge in front of each ear that lets you open, close and move your jaw. TMJ dysfunction (TMD) shows up as jaw pain or tightness, clicking or popping, difficulty opening wide, locking, pain with chewing or yawning, and often ear fullness, headaches and neck pain. Clenching and grinding, stress, dental work, whiplash and neck posture are the usual drivers.
Because the jaw and the upper neck share muscles and nerves, TMJ problems rarely improve unless both are treated. That is why physiotherapy — not just a night guard — is the first-line treatment for most TMD.
TMJ Symptoms We Treat
Our physiotherapists at Cityscape Square NE assess and treat:
- Jaw pain, tightness or fatigue
- Clicking, popping or grinding in the jaw
- Locking or limited mouth opening
- Pain with chewing, yawning or talking
- Clenching and grinding (bruxism)
- Ear pain, fullness or ringing without infection
- Headaches and facial pain
- Jaw pain after whiplash or a car accident
How We Treat TMJ Dysfunction
Assessment covers jaw opening and movement pattern, joint noise, the chewing and neck muscles, upper cervical mobility, posture and habits like clenching. Treatment uses gentle joint mobilization inside and outside the mouth, release of the masseter, temporalis and pterygoid muscles, dry needling for trigger points, upper neck treatment, and a home program of jaw control exercises, posture and relaxation strategies. We coordinate with your dentist when a splint or dental issue is part of the picture.
TMJ pain that follows a collision is treated under your car accident claim alongside whiplash treatment. TMJ initial assessment is $120, follow-ups $110.

Our Patients Share Their Journey
After my motor vehicle accident, I was dealing with intense neck pain, lower back discomfort, and stiffness that made even simple movements difficult. Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain. After each session, I felt more relaxed and could move more freely. Chiropractic sessions with Dr. Dhaliwal were also a key part of my recovery. His adjustments helped improve my alignment and significantly reduced the stiffness and discomfort I was experiencing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout each session. Within a few weeks, I noticed major improvements less pain, better movement, and a return to my normal daily routine. The combined approach of physiotherapy, massage, and chiropractic care really made the recovery process faster and more effective. The clinic is clean, well organized, and has a very positive and welcoming environment. The front desk staff are friendly and always helpful with booking and insurance related questions. I’m truly grateful to the entire team at Apollo Physio, especially Vidhi, Janki, and Dr. Dhaliwal, for their care and support. I highly recommend them to anyone recovering from a motor vehicle accident or dealing with pain they genuinely care and deliver excellent results.

He took the time to understand my condition and explain everything clearly, which helped me feel confident and supported throughout the recovery process. Ramesh created a personalized treatment plan that focused on relieving my pain and improving mobility. His hands-on techniques and guided exercises made a huge difference — I could feel the improvement after just a few sessions. He’s patient, encouraging, and truly dedicated to helping his clients heal. Thanks to Ramesh, my shoulder and back pain have improved significantly, and I feel much stronger and more active again. Frequently Asked Questions
About TMJ & Jaw Pain Treatment
Clicking from a displaced disc may not disappear entirely, but pain, locking and limited opening usually improve significantly with treatment.
Both, often. A dentist addresses bite and grinding with a splint; physiotherapy treats the joint, muscles and neck. We coordinate.
Very often. Jaw muscle tension and upper neck stiffness are common headache drivers, and treating them together helps both.
