What It Is and Why It Happens
The rotator cuff is the group of four muscles and tendons that hold the ball of the shoulder in its socket and power overhead movement. Problems range from tendinopathy (an irritated, overloaded tendon), to impingement (the tendon pinching under the shoulder blade), to partial or full-thickness tears — from a fall, a lift or simply years of use. The typical picture is a painful arc between 60 and 120 degrees of lifting, pain reaching behind the back, weakness, and night pain.
Most rotator cuff problems, including many partial tears, are treated without surgery. The evidence is clear that structured strengthening outperforms rest, and matches surgery for many degenerative tears.
Rotator Cuff Problems We Treat
Our physiotherapists at Cityscape Square NE assess and treat:
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy and tendinitis
- Shoulder impingement and painful arc
- Partial and full-thickness rotator cuff tears
- Calcific tendinitis
- Post-surgical rotator cuff repair rehab
- Throwing, bowling and overhead athlete shoulder pain
- Shoulder pain from lifting, warehouse and trades work
- Shoulder pain after a fall or car accident
How We Treat Rotator Cuff Injuries
Assessment tests each cuff muscle, the shoulder blade mechanics and the neck, and grades the problem. Treatment is a progressive loading program for the cuff and scapular stabilizers, manual therapy to restore range, dry needling for guarded muscles, taping when useful, and activity modification for work or sport. Post-surgical patients follow the surgeon’s protocol through post-surgical rehab.
Sudden weakness after a fall, or inability to lift the arm at all, should be assessed quickly for a full tear. See also frozen shoulder and shoulder pain physiotherapy.

Our Patients Share Their Journey
After my motor vehicle accident, I was dealing with intense neck pain, lower back discomfort, and stiffness that made even simple movements difficult. Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain. After each session, I felt more relaxed and could move more freely. Chiropractic sessions with Dr. Dhaliwal were also a key part of my recovery. His adjustments helped improve my alignment and significantly reduced the stiffness and discomfort I was experiencing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout each session. Within a few weeks, I noticed major improvements less pain, better movement, and a return to my normal daily routine. The combined approach of physiotherapy, massage, and chiropractic care really made the recovery process faster and more effective. The clinic is clean, well organized, and has a very positive and welcoming environment. The front desk staff are friendly and always helpful with booking and insurance related questions.
