What It Is and How It Helps
Spinal decompression applies gentle, intermittent traction to the spine to reduce pressure on discs and nerve roots. By creating space within the spinal segment, it can ease the leg or arm symptoms of a disc bulge, reduce the compression of spinal stenosis and relieve muscle guarding. It is a conservative option for people whose pain is aggravated by loading and eased by lying down or hanging from a bar.
At Apollo, decompression is delivered as part of a chiropractic or physiotherapy plan, never alone — the relief it gives is used to build strength and movement that keep symptoms from returning.
Conditions Decompression Is Used For
Our chiropractor at Cityscape Square NE assesses and treats:
- Lumbar disc bulge or herniation with sciatica
- Cervical disc bulge with arm pain
- Spinal stenosis
- Degenerative disc disease
- Facet joint compression
- Sciatica aggravated by sitting and loading
- Neck and arm pain from disc compression
- Chronic low back pain with a compressive pattern
What a Decompression Session Involves
After assessment confirms a compressive pattern, you lie comfortably while gentle, rhythmic traction is applied and released over 10–20 minutes. Most people find it relaxing. Sessions are combined with mobilization, soft tissue treatment and a home exercise program, and progress is measured by how far your symptoms centralize — move out of the leg or arm and back toward the spine.
Decompression is not used with certain spinal instabilities, fractures, pregnancy or recent spinal surgery; our assessment screens for these. See also herniated disc treatment and sciatica.

Work injuries are covered through WCB and collision injuries under Section B.

After my motor vehicle accident, I was dealing with intense neck pain, lower back discomfort, and stiffness that made even simple movements difficult. Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain. After each session, I felt more relaxed and could move more freely. Chiropractic sessions with Dr. Dhaliwal were also a key part of my recovery. His adjustments helped improve my alignment and significantly reduced the stiffness and discomfort I was experiencing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout each session. Within a few weeks, I noticed major improvements less pain, better movement, and a return to my normal daily routine.
