Physiotherapy for Shoulder Pain Calgary

Conditions A–M

Pinching of the rotator cuff or bursa under the shoulder blade when lifting the arm, producing a painful arc. Treated with shoulder blade control and rotator cuff strengthening, manual therapy and technique changes for overhead work. See rotator cuff.

Injury to the joint at the top of the shoulder from a fall onto the point of the shoulder — common in hockey, cycling and winter falls. Graded from I to VI; most are treated with early protection, then range and strength, and return to sport with criteria.

A tear of the cartilage rim of the socket, causing deep pain, clicking and instability, often in throwing and overhead athletes. Conservative rehab restores stability and function for many; we assess and refer for surgical opinion when needed.

Compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow, causing numbness in the ring and little fingers, worse with elbow bending. Treated with nerve gliding, positioning, elbow padding and activity changes. Compare with carpal tunnel.

A finger or thumb that catches or locks when bending, from a thickened tendon sheath. Early cases respond to splinting, tendon gliding and activity changes; we refer for injection or release when locking persists.

Overuse and strain from repetitive lifting, reaching and carrying. Covered through WCB where work-related, with return-to-work planning built in.

Our Patients Share Their Journey

After my motor vehicle accident, I was dealing with intense neck pain, lower back discomfort, and stiffness that made even simple movements difficult. Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain. After each session, I felt more relaxed and could move more freely. Chiropractic sessions with Dr. Dhaliwal were also a key part of my recovery. His adjustments helped improve my alignment and significantly reduced the stiffness and discomfort I was experiencing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout each session. Within a few weeks, I noticed major improvements less pain, better movement, and a return to my normal daily routine. The combined approach of physiotherapy, massage, and chiropractic care really made the recovery process faster and more effective. The clinic is clean, well organized, and has a very positive and welcoming environment. The front desk staff are friendly and always helpful with booking and insurance related questions. About Shoulder, Arm & Hand Conditions We Treat

A shoulder that has dislocated or feels like it might, from a fall, a tackle or hypermobility. Rehab restores rotator cuff and scapular control and rebuilds confidence in overhead and loaded positions; we coordinate with orthopedics when surgery is being considered.

Pain at the front of the shoulder with lifting and reaching, from overload of the long head of biceps. Treated with load management, progressive strengthening and shoulder mechanics correction, often alongside rotator cuff rehab.

Compression of the nerves or blood vessels between the neck and shoulder, causing arm heaviness, tingling and hand symptoms, worse with overhead activity. Treated with posture and first-rib mobility, scalene and pec release, nerve gliding and strengthening.

Pain at the thumb side of the wrist with gripping and lifting — classic in new parents lifting babies and in repetitive thumb work. Treated with splinting, tendon gliding, manual therapy and technique changes; most settle in 4–8 weeks.

Restoring range, strength and function after a Colles’ or scaphoid fracture once the cast comes off. Early physiotherapy prevents long-term stiffness and weakness in the wrist and hand.
