What It Is and Why It Happens
Urinary incontinence is any unwanted leakage of urine, and it comes in two main types. Stress incontinence is leaking with pressure — coughing, sneezing, laughing, running, lifting — usually from a pelvic floor that is weak, uncoordinated or overly tight. Urge incontinence is a sudden, hard-to-defer need to go, often with leakage before you reach the toilet, and is driven by the bladder and its nerve signals. Many people have both.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is recommended as first-line treatment by urology and gynaecology guidelines worldwide, before medication or surgery, and it resolves or substantially improves most stress incontinence.
Bladder Problems We Treat
Our physiotherapists at Cityscape Square NE assess and treat:
- Stress incontinence (leaking with cough, sneeze, jump, lift)
- Urge incontinence and overactive bladder
- Mixed incontinence
- Postpartum incontinence
- Incontinence with menopause
- Post-prostatectomy incontinence in men
- Frequent urination and nocturia
- Leaking during running and high-impact exercise
How We Treat Incontinence
Assessment includes a detailed bladder and symptom history, a bladder diary where useful, and — with your consent — an internal pelvic floor assessment to determine whether the muscles are weak, tight, poorly coordinated or all three, since the treatment differs. The program combines individually cued pelvic floor training (correctly, which most people are not doing), bladder retraining and urge-control strategies, breathing and pressure management for lifting and impact, and treatment of any overactive or painful muscles. Progress is tracked with objective measures.
Internal assessment is optional and always explained first; external assessment and treatment are available. See also prolapse and diastasis recti.

Our Patients Share Their Journey
After my motor vehicle accident, I was dealing with intense neck pain, lower back discomfort, and stiffness that made even simple movements difficult. Coming to Apollo Physio truly made a huge difference in my recovery journey. I received treatment from Vidhi, my physiotherapist, Janki, my massage therapist, and chiropractic care from Dr. Dhaliwal and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Vidhi created a well-structured treatment plan and guided me through exercises that gradually improved my strength and mobility. She explained everything clearly and kept track of my progress at every step. Janki’s massage therapy sessions were incredibly helpful in reducing muscle tightness and relieving pain. After each session, I felt more relaxed and could move more freely. Chiropractic sessions with Dr. Dhaliwal were also a key part of my recovery. His adjustments helped improve my alignment and significantly reduced the stiffness and discomfort I was experiencing. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout each session. Within a few weeks, I noticed major improvements less pain, better movement, and a return to my normal daily routine. The combined approach of physiotherapy, massage, and chiropractic care really made the recovery process faster and more effective. The clinic is clean, well organized, and has a very positive and welcoming environment. The front desk staff are friendly and always helpful with booking and insurance related questions. I’m truly grateful to the entire team at Apollo Physio, especially Vidhi, Janki, and Dr. Dhaliwal, for their care and support. I highly recommend them to anyone recovering from a motor vehicle accident or dealing with pain they genuinely care and deliver excellent results.
